Maxime Le Calvé is an anthropologist of art and science, and a Research Associate at the ExC “Matters of Activity.” He is the Co-Founder of the Speculative Realities Lab. He trained in general ethnology at the University of Paris Nanterre and holds a PhD in social anthropology and theatre studies, from EHESS Paris and FU Berlin. In his latest ethnographic project, he explores navigation practices in neurosurgery, using live drawing and virtual reality design as field methods.
Thomas Picht is a Neurosurgeon and Professor of Digital Neurosurgery. He is Head of the Image Guidance Lab and Co-Founder of the Speculative Realities Lab at Charité - Universitätsmedizin Berlin. In addition, he is PI at the Cluster of Excellence Matters of Activity at the Humboldt University Berlin and heads the Charité Subsidiary business unit CEED Industry-in-Clinic-Platform.
Nayeli Vega is an artist and designer participating in the DiGiTal University program supported by the Berlin Equal Opportunity Program (BCP). She is an artistic collaborator and researcher at the Textile and Material Design department at the Weißensee Kunsthochschule Berlin. Vega is an associated member at the Cluster of Excellence "Matters of Activity" at Humboldt University of Berlin.
Paulina Greta Stefanovic is a Berlin-based artist, a Ph.D. candidate in Human-Computer Interaction at TU Berlin and a lecturer of “Natural User Interfaces” at HTW Berlin. Her research focuses on VR sketching and immersive movement-based interfaces. Paulina is an associated member at the Cluster of Excellence "Matters of Activity" at Humboldt University of Berlin.
Elaine Bonavia is a researcher, artist and computational designer working with spatial media, movement and material systems at the intersection of art, architecture and technology. Since 2020, she has been teaching digital drawing and fabrication at the Textile and Material Design department of Weißensee Kunsthochschule in Berlin. She is currently pursuing a practice-based PhD at TU Berlin. Since 2018, she also creates digital drawings, animation and immersive artworks under the alias helene malte.
Warja Rybakova is a creative coder based in Berlin and a member of DockDigital. She acquired extensive experience through collaborations with creative studios in game design and system design. Her approach is experimental and multidisciplinary; it combines design and technology and center around the unpredictability of results.
Anna L. Roethe is a PGY-6 resident at the Charité Department of Neurosurgery in Berlin. From 2013 to 2018, she was a researcher at the Cluster of Excellence Image Knowledge Gestaltung at Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin with a special interest in interdisciplinary exploration of surgical knowledge and practice. Within the Image Guidance Lab at Charité, her focus has been on »Visualization/Virtualization« including research work on AR, VR, 3D and exoscope technology in neurosurgical interventions. She holds a dual degree in medicine and culture studies.
Nico Daleman is a Colombian-born sound artist and researcher based in Berlin. With a background in audio engineering and musicology, his research explores the influence of music technology on current practices of contemporary music and sound art, focusing on cybernetics, neuroscience, artificial intelligence, and non-western musical traditions. He is a member of the sound art collective Errant Sound and hosts the show “The Rest is Music” on Cashmere Radio.
Kotryna Šlapšinskaitė is student assistant to the project Cutting at the ExC “Matters of Activity” and a master's student of Cultural History and Theory at Humboldt University Berlin. She is a cultural producer and project manager working within the fields of contemporary art and digital arts.
